How to choose your men's fragrance?

All the tips for finding the right perfume

Notes, scent, olfactory memories, skin, style... So many factors go into choosing a perfume! Here are some tips for finding your ideal fragrance.

1. For athletes

Each fragrance has its own personality; it's up to you to find the one that best matches yours, either to soften it or to assert it. If you're looking for a sports line, you'll prefer the freshness of fruity or aquatic notes, such as Acqua di Gio by Armani, Lacoste, Bulgari Aqua, L'Eau de Kenzo, or Chrome Legend by Azzaro. These invigorating fragrances are suited for dynamic men who love action.

2. For businessmen

Fragrances that are both woody and spicy are more suited for self-assured men with strong personalities, for businessmen. Men who are both virile and refined are naturally drawn to the scents of Dior Homme, Kouros or Rive Gauche pour Homme by YSL, Paco Rabanne (the classic), Fahrenheit by Dior, Habit Rouge by Guerlain or even Grey Flannel, symbols of eternal masculinity.

3. For the trendy and the seducers

Trendy young men primarily like contemporary fragrances diffused by Paco Rabanne's Black XS, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Kenzo pour Homme, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and generally all fragrances affiliated with a brand. For seducers, seducers usually choose a perfume to please themselves and those around them. Gourmand, intoxicating, and spicy notes generally suit them perfectly: Gucci pour Homme II, Opium by YSL, Prada pour Homme with its subtle peppery and vanilla blend.

4. Scented memories

Memories, fantasies, symbols – perfume is imbued with a strong evocative and emotional charge. Remember your first romantic encounter, your summer holidays, a discovery trip… Associated with happy emotions, perfume has the power to bring back happiness from where it was buried in your youth. To see if a perfume suits you, you need to test it on yourself. It's the skin that creates the alchemy with the perfume (test). Straight from the bottle, you'll only smell the most superficial notes (the top notes). Similarly, on a paper strip, the warm and sensual base notes don't develop as well as on the skin. Spray the perfume on pulse points (wrist, neck...) which promote emulsion. Let it act for 30 to 60 minutes: initially, the top notes appear (the freshest). Then come the heart notes, or floral or fruity notes, which evoke the perfume's theme. But it's the base note that will reveal the true personality of your perfume. This last note appears later. If after thirty minutes you no longer smell the perfume, it may mean that it suits you well.

Final tips

To choose, no more than 3 fragrances! Beyond that, your sense of smell can no longer perceive the differences. Smell your perfume in the fresh air, outside a confined space, and wear nothing on the day you try it. Beware, a perfume that suits someone else may not suit you at all! Once you've fallen in love with your new perfume, all you have to do is choose the formula that suits you: eau de toilette, perfume, scented oil, lotion... depending on the sillage you want to leave behind and your budget.
