Repetto
Rose Repetto created more suitable shoes in 1947, at the request of her son Roland Petit, then a young dancer who came back from his classes aching, often exhausted and sometimes even with streaks of blood on his feet. A skilled seamstress, she decided to design a shoe that would allow greater ease when practising this sport, thanks to her "sewn-and-turned" technique (the leather sole is sewn inside out before being turned). She then gave up her job as a bistro owner to open a workshop near the Paris Opera, where she created her first revolutionary pointe shoes. Nine years later, she created the "Cendrillon" ballet flats, which she dedicated to Brigitte Bardot, a former dancer. These were immortalised in the film And God Created Woman. In 1959, Rose Repetto opened her first boutique at 22 rue de la Paix in Paris. Many dancers came there to be fitted: Maurice Béjart, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Carolyn Carlson, the Kirov, the Folies Bergère, etc. Repetto launched its first perfume in July 2013.
